ABOUT DR. SPORTELLI
An Unconventional Path to Psychiatry
Actor. Model. Fitness trainer. Scientist. Physician. Every road I took led to the same place: sitting across from someone in their hardest moment and being able to help.
My Story
My path to psychiatry was anything but conventional, and I believe that’s precisely what makes me the physician I am today.
I began in the creative world of acting and modeling, disciplines that sharpened my ability to read people, understand emotion, and communicate with empathy. From there I channeled a passion for health and performance into becoming a nationally certified fitness trainer, developing a deep respect for the mind-body connection.
But I had an intellectual hunger that couldn’t be satisfied outside of science. I pursued a Master’s in Biology, then earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, a training grounded in a whole-person philosophy of care.
My clinical path began with a family medicine internship: broad, demanding, and humbling. And in those encounters, I found myself drawn again and again to something deeper than the physical: the extraordinary complexity of the human mind, and the ways psychiatric conditions shape every part of a person’s life.
That fascination compelled me to pivot fully into psychiatry. First came board certification in adult psychiatry, then fellowship and board certification in child and adolescent psychiatry as well.
“I didn’t take a straight road to psychiatry, and that’s exactly why I connect with people who don’t fit neatly into a box either.”
